| Purpose |
Free chlorine in various waters, pH colorimetric determination, and total hardness determination in low alkalinity waters. |
| Ingredients |
A-pH Indicator: Phenol red, ethanol 96%.
B-Chlorine Reagent: O-Tolidine, hydrochloric acid.
C-Buffered Indicator Titrator: Eriochrome black T, ethanol 96%, ethta disodium salt. |
| Working Principle |
|
| Warnings, Precautions, Recommendations |
Danger. Highly flammable liquid and vapor. May corrode metals. Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Keep away from heat/sparks/flames/hot surfaces. Store only in the original container. Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection. IF SWALLOWED: Rinse your mouth. DO NOT induce vomiting. IF ON SKIN (or hair): Immediately remove all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/shower. |
| Application
|
Measuring the pH of Water:
1. Take the measuring cup from your kit.
2. Pour the water sample to be tested up to the 10 ml mark.
3. Hold the A-pH Indicator bottle at a 90-degree angle with the dropper opening. Make sure the drops are not air bubbles. Add 2 drops to the sample, close the cap, and stir 2 times.
Measuring Free Chlorine in Water:
1. Take the measuring cup from your kit.
2. Add the water sample to be tested up to the 10 ml mark.
3. Hold the B-Chlor Separator bottle at a 90-degree angle with the dropper opening. Ensure the drops are not air-bubbled. Add 3 drops to the sample, close the cap, and mix thoroughly for 3 turns.
4. Determine the free chlorine content of the water by comparing the color in the container to the chlorine color scale.
Measuring Hardness in Water:
1.Take the measuring cup from your kit.
2.Fill it with the water sample to be tested up to the 5 ml mark.
3.Hold the C-Buffered Indicator Titrator bottle at a 90-degree angle with the dropper opening. Make sure the drops are not air bubbles. Add 1 drop and mix.
4.If a red-pink color appears, continue adding drops from the C-Buffered Indicator Titrator.
5.Stir after each drop.
6.Continue the dropping process until the color turns bluish-green.
7.Stop the titration when the bluish-green color appears. |
| Theoretical Results |
A- The pH color scale is compared with the change in the color of the water sample.
B- The chlorine color scale is compared with the change in the color of the water sample.
C- The number of drops used gives the total hardness of the water sample.
1 drop = 1 AS.
